What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for the day-to-day support a person receives while living in a shared home. SIL vs SDA, what’s the difference?
SIL, the support
Supported Independent Living (SIL) funds the people and support that help you live day to day, the workers, the routines, the skill-building. Most participants in shared homes are funded through SIL. This is what Empower and Shine provides.
SDA, the housing
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funds the physical home itself, for people with high or specialist housing needs. Not everyone is eligible for SDA, and you don’t need SDA to receive SIL support in one of our homes.
